This image caused a considerable problem for Peter Beard, to whose self-portrait from 1960 (lot 24) it bears a close affinity. Newton had sent Beard the catalogue of his 1984-85 show at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

This image was on the cover. Later in 1985 the police raided Beard's Hog Ranch home in Kenya on the basis of a corrupt political plot to seize his property. It was claimed by the police that the Pina Bausch artist was 'improperly dressed'. Beard was charged with possessing pornography and trafficking in 'abscene [sic] literature'.

Allen Lee Davis  (July 20, 1944 – July 8, 1999) was an American murderer who was executed for the 1982 murder of Nancy Weiler, who was three months pregnant, in Jacksonville, Florida. According to reports, Nancy Weiler was "beaten almost beyond recognition" by Davis with a .357 Magnum, and hit more than 25 times in the face and head. He was additionally convicted of killing Nancy Weiler's two daughters, Kristina, age 9, who was shot twice in the face, and Katherine, age 5, who was shot as she tried to run away and then had her skull beaten in with the gun. Davis, who had a lengthy criminal history, was on parole for armed robbery at the time of the murders. The Judas Cradle, A Terrible Medieval Torture The Judas Cradle, is a terrible medieval torture where the victim would be placed on top of a pyramid-like seat. The victim's feet were tied to each other in a way that moving one leg would force the other to move as well - increasing pain. The triangular-shaped end of the judas cradle was inserted in the victim's anus or vagina. This torture could last, depending on some factors discussed below, anywhere from a few hours to complete days. Death Factors The time it took someone to die varied enormously from individual to individual. The Freedomite movement first appeared in 1902 in Saskatchewan, and later in the Kootenay and Boundary Districts of British Columbia. Freedomites began to divide from Doukhobors in 1902 in Saskatchewan, Canada, self-named as "God's people" and  Svobodniki  (Russian: "sovereign people"). The faction, later called "Freedomites", opposed land ownership, public schools, using work animals, etc. and are mainly known for protesting nude.
