 Public Execution at Ijebu-Ode of Noah Odesanya, an ex-soldier who robbed and killed over 4 passengers on Ijebu- Lagos Road.

Right after the civil war, Armed and highway robbery was then a novelty in Nigeria. The country had just exited a 30-month civil war and arms and ammunition were available to those who wanted to buy for underworld activities.


 There was a thriving black market where criminals could get weapons to buy. The pattern of crimes especially stealing pick-pocketing and burglary had changed as hoodlums armed themselves to frighten and if need be kill their victims. 


The military government deemed it fit to introduce the capital punishment as a way of curbing the increase in armed robbery cases in the country then.

Allen Lee Davis  (July 20, 1944 – July 8, 1999) was an American murderer who was executed for the 1982 murder of Nancy Weiler, who was three months pregnant, in Jacksonville, Florida. According to reports, Nancy Weiler was "beaten almost beyond recognition" by Davis with a .357 Magnum, and hit more than 25 times in the face and head. He was additionally convicted of killing Nancy Weiler's two daughters, Kristina, age 9, who was shot twice in the face, and Katherine, age 5, who was shot as she tried to run away and then had her skull beaten in with the gun.
